What are the “Future Challenges” driving the revision of ISO 14001?

One of the key inputs for the revision of the ISO 14001 standard is a report that was completed prior to the start of the revision process.

It is the Final report on the future challenges of EMS and ISO 14001 prepared by a study group of ISO/TC 207/SC1.

It sets out suggestions for the revision of ISO 14001 related to the following 11 themes:

  2. improvement of environmental performance
  3. compliance
  4. strategic business management
  5. conformity assessment
  6. uptake in small organizations
  7. environmental impacts in the value/supply chain
  8. engaging stakeholders
  9. parallel or sub-systems (GHG, energy)

  11. positioning of EMS in policy agendas
